Increased yield of white marble with the optical sorting of MSort

The customer

  • The customer is a family-owned company from Norway that mines marble in an underground mine. The tunnels are driven horizontally in several levels into the mountain on site.

The challenge

  • The white marble is selectively blasted out of the mountain and processed into particle sizes of 3 - 8 mm, 8 - 16 mm, 16 - 32 mm and 32 - 120 mm using a classic crushing and screening process.
  • Due to the long selective mining process, the white marble deposits are significantly reduced. The quarried rock is increasingly mixed with gray to black marble and thus no longer suitable for many filler applications. Consequently, white marble can now only be selectively mined in small quantities.
  • The objective is to produce marble with as high a degree of whiteness as possible for the filler industry.

 The solution

  • The use of the MSort AF 2113 enables the customer to optically sort grain sizes in the range of 3 - 30 mm. During sorting, all stones that are not white are discharged. Depending on the input material, this can be up to 40%.
  • The output of the machine averages 21 t/h across all fractions.

The result

  • With Mogensen's solution, all quarried material is fed into the process and the white marble is extracted. Selective mining is thus no longer necessary.
  • The yield of white marble could be significantly increased and the mining time of the mine extended.
  • With the MSort AF2113, the end product is characterized by a stable quality.
